New Westminster police want to speak to anyone who may have witnessed a purse snatching near Moody Park on June 7

A woman was recently walking near Moody Park when a bike-riding thief stole her purse.

The New Westminster Police Department received a call from a victim saying a male on a bicycle had stolen her purse while she was walking in the 700 block of 10th Street around 11:15 on Tuesday, June 7. The victim told police the suspect grabbed her purse from her hands before riding northbound on 10th Street.

According to a NWPD press release, New West police officers and the Integrated Lower Mainland Police Dog Service rushed to the area and searched for the suspect, but they couldn’t locate anyone matching the suspect description.

Although the victim didn’t suffer any physical injuries, she was put in touch with the NWPD’s victim assistance unit.

“This is a concerning incident, and would have been frightening for the victim,” said NWPD spokesperson Sgt. Justine Thom. “If you have any information on who this individual is, please contact the New Westminster Police Department without delay.”

The suspect was described as riding a mountain bike. He was wearing a black baseball hat and a black hooded sweatshirt.
