New Westminster police want to hear from anyone who may have witnessed vandals bashing windows and smashing mirrors on cars on Carnarvon Street.

A downtown resident called the New Westminster Police Department about 1:30 a.m. on Monday, May 30 to report seeing someone smashing the windows of a condominium lobby with a brick.

When officers arrived on scene they witnessed a man matching the suspect description standing next to smashed windows of a second address across the street,” said a NWPD press release. “The suspect was taken into custody after he tried to smash the windows of a third condominium lobby.”

According to the NWPD, officers later learned the suspect had allegedly smashed mirrors of two parked cars.

“This is a densely populated area of the downtown neighbourhood, and officers believe there may have been more witnesses that saw this mischief and have not spoken to police,” said NWPD spokesperson Sgt. Sanjay Kumar in a news release. “Officers will be recommending numerous charges to Crown counsel.”

The New Westminster Police Department is asking witnesses to call 604-525-5411 if they have any information about any incidents that occurred in the 800 block of Carnarvon in the early morning hours of May 30.
