Back-to-school bus service upped for New Westminster students

Two key TransLink routes, the 128 and the 104, are getting more frequent service for the new school year.

New Westminster students who take transit to school will have a few more options starting Tuesday.

School returns for the 2022/23 school year on Tuesday, Sept. 6, and those students who take TransLink buses to get to their schools may notice some improvements.

School District 40 highlighted the improvements in a back-to-school message for local families, noting two routes of particular note to New West students:

Route 128: 22nd Street Station/Braid Station

In peak commute hours, including the before- and after-school windows, the 128 will see service every 15 minutes instead of every 20, resulting in an extra bus each hour.  The change will help those students and staff who transfer from the higher-frequency Queensborough bus routes, and it will also improve access for anyone who takes the bus across the city along Eighth Avenue.

Route 104: Annacis Island/22nd Street Station

An extra trip is being added in the morning commute hours for the route that runs through Queensborough and that’s well used by students travelling to New Westminster Secondary School. That extra trip will now leave Annacis Island at 7:11 a.m.

“We want to acknowledge the students, families, staff, trustees and others who advocated for increased services. We will continue to work alongside all our stakeholders as TransLink assesses how these changes address the needs of students, families and staff trying to access our schools,” said a letter from the New Westminster school district.
