5 ways to woo your sweetheart with made-in-New-West treats

One of everything, please.

Have you decided on a treat for your valentine yet?

With one week left till Valentine’s Day, these New Westminster businesses are here to help you out.

We’ve found a few sweet offerings from local businesses to get you started on the path to romance:

Trove Desserts

Since it opened in 2020, this sister-owned and operated business has become a go-to spot for lovers of fine desserts, with an array of baked treats and holiday-themed boxes. You can impress your sweetie or your family (or just indulge your own sweet tooth) with some delectable Valentine’s-themed goodies, including chocolate berry cake or cupcakes, a chocolate heart cake or Nanaimo bars (in original or raspberry, for the pink touch).

Bonus for the gluten-free crowd: the heart cake is flourless and gluten-friendly.

The dessert box is available in mini, small, medium or large, depending how many people you’re feeding. The large one (feeds seven to 12) is absolutely jam-packed with treasures: oatmeal coconut sandwich cookies with vanilla buttercream, brownie sandwich cookies with chocolate buttercream, Earl Grey citrus cookies, original Nanaimo bars, lemon crinkle cookies, pecan espresso blondies, fudge brownies, chocolate chunk cookies and lemon heart sugar cookies.

The bakers need a three-day lead time, so you need to get your order in no later than Feb. 11 for Valentine’s Day. But be warned that some items may sell out, so be as early as you can.

Pickup is from the company’s shared kitchen at 800 20th St. Delivery is also available throughout Metro Vancouver. Order online.

Yum Gourmet Donuts

This haven for doughnut lovers in Sapperton is offering up a “doughnut bouquet” between Feb. 9 and 13, featuring six mini cream-filled heart doughnuts and six chocolate-covered strawberries.

To order, call the shop at 604-521-2478 during business hours (Thursday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Monday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.).

There will also be some special valentine-themed doughnuts available to go with the usual array of delectable flavours — running the gamut from chocolate peanut butter to raspberry lime to crème brulee to its much-coveted apple fritters.

You can follow them on Facebook or Instagram for all the current flavours.

Kamini's Corner Café

This friendly neighbourhood favourite on 12th Street is taking orders for Valentine’s cookies, so if you’re in the market for some sweetly decorated heart-shaped shortbread, this one’s for you.

You need to order by Feb. 8, though, so don’t delay. Pickup is Feb. 11 from 909 12th St.

You can find Kamini’s on Facebook, at Kamini's website or call 604-544-5128.

Star Choco-Bar

Love strawberries? This New West business is serving up gift boxes with chocolate-dipped strawberries (including a vegan/keto option), as well as mini tarts — with options including white chocolate, dark chocolate, dark chocolate and salted caramel, or lemon and coconut.

Valentine’s orders are available for local delivery within New Westminster, or local pickup, between Feb. 10 and 13. Place an order with Star Choco-Bar online.

Pacific Breeze Winery + Crimp & Crumb Chocolates

Yes, we alerted you to this one last week, but it bears repeating as Valentine's Day nears: New West's own Pacific Breeze Winery is teaming up with East Van's Crimp & Crumb Chocolates for these delightful wine and chocolate pairing sessions. You get to try four wines, each paired with its own scrumptious little hand-painted, hand-crafted chocolate.

You can book a 45-minute session on Feb. 10, 11, 12 or 14 for you and your valentine of choice. Book online.
