Art has a deeper purpose at Moxie Muse.

New Westminster-based visual artist Komal Saxena invites community members to Moxie Muse, which features artwork and wearable art pieces – and much more. The event is being billed as “Moxie Muse: A journey of art and empathy. A Celebration of Creativity and Compassion.”

Moxie Muse is taking place on Friday, March 1 at the #IHeartNewWest Community Art Space in downtown New Westminster.

“Beyond its artistic merits, Moxie Muse holds a deeper purpose – to support the invaluable work of Westminster House,” Saxena said in an email to the Record. “A portion of the event's proceeds will be dedicated to aiding their mission of assisting young girls and women in need. Inspired by the courage and determination of the residents at Westminster House, I felt compelled to contribute in my own way.”

Moxie Muse will feature an open gallery from noon to 9 p.m., providing an opportunity for art enthusiasts and community members to come together, share stories, and celebrate creativity.

“We aim to engage with a broader audience and foster connections within the community,” Saxena said.

Here’s what’s planned for Moxie Muse:

  • 12 to 9 p.m.: Guests can wander freely in the open gallery and check out the artwork. A gemstone jewelry creator will be present, curating pieces inspired by the artwork that’s on display.
  • 5 to 5:30 p.m.: Artist’s discussion with the featured artist, who will share insights into their creative process, inspirations, and the stories behind their showcased artworks.
  • 5:30 to 6 p.m.: Westminster House, a New West-based recovery program for women and girls, will provide information about its program.
  • 6 to 7 p.m.: Live performances featuring local talent.

Food and refreshments (non-alcoholic) will be available from 5 to 7 p.m.

“Westminster House is grateful to have been named the beneficiary organization of an upcoming art show on Friday, March 1,” said a notice on the organization’s website. “Join us for an evening of art, connection, music and community giving; the night is more than just a celebration of creativity, it’s a gathering with a purpose.”

Moxie Muse is taking place in the #IHeartNewWest Community Art Space in Columbia Square plaza, #103- 78 10th St.

Tickets are $33.28 (including a $3.28 fee) and free for kids.
