The S&O Beer Run raised more than $2,000 for KidSport New West in 2023 and hopes to raise even more in 2024.

The second annual S&O Beer Run will once again be raising funds to support local kids.

Following the resounding success of last year's inaugural 5-kilometre race, Steel & Oak Brewing Co. has announced the return of the S&O Beer Run. The family-friendly event will take place on Saturday, May 11, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Queen’s Park.

“Last year’s event was so successful and fulfilling for many reasons. Above all, it embodied the spirit of the city with the local community uniting to create special memories, celebrate one another, and support a valuable local charity,” said Jordan Brett of Steel & Oak. “S&O is grateful to host an event in such a vibrant community, and we can’t wait to share another joyous day with everyone.”

Participants will lace up their running shoes for a scenic 5-kilometre route around Queen’s Park that begins at 11 a.m. The course includes “a dedicated cheer section” to give runners an added boost of energy as they run up a short, steep hill on in the park.

This year’s S&O Beer Run will once again support KidSport New West, which provides grants to help cover the costs of registration fees so all kids aged 18 and under in New West can play a season of sport.

Last year’s run raised more than $2,000 for KidSport New West – and Steel & Oak hopes to top that with this year’s run.

Participants will receive a finisher's medal, a bib, a timing chip, and an exclusive grab bag. Refreshments and a snack will be provided at the finish line.

But the S&O Beer Run extends beyond the run, as the local craft brewery will be hosting a beer garden in Queen’s Park.

From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., runners, supporters and community members are invited to the beer garden. A selection of S&O beers, food from a food truck, and soft drinks will be available for purchase.

“Friends and family are invited to join the post-race festivities to share in the celebration,” said a news release from S&O.

Online registration for the S&O Beer Run is available at sobeerrun.ca. There’s no charge to enter the post-race area.
