It’s the Family Day weekend, and there is lots to do in New West – including a whole host of fun activities for families and the opening of an innovative exhibition featuring international artists.

Saturday, Feb. 17

ZOOVEILLANCE opening reception

ZOOVEILLANCE, the latest exhibition curated by the New Media Gallery, features three, award-winning artists from around the world. The exhibition uses animals as a filter through which to explore concerns with social media and Artificial Intelligence.

  • When: Saturday, Feb. 17, 1 to 4:30 p.m. An artist talk with Berlin-based artist Marco Barotti takes place from 1 to 2 p.m. and the exhibition opens at 2 p.m.

Celebrate the Strange

Delight in the “seemingly strange but infinitely interesting world of animal family dynamics” at Celebrate the Strange, the Family Day long weekend’s offering at Fraser River Discovery Centre.

Growing Together: Explore and Craft Your Family Tree is a Family Day event that gives kids aged six to 12 a chance to explore their family heritage with arts and crafts and piece together their family tree. Attendees can bring family pictures and history for extra personal touch.

Family Team Quest for Electric Wire Maze

Youth (12 to 17 years) and parents will team up for a chance to win $100, $50, or $25 cash prizes. At this Family Day event, they’ll build a fun buzz wire maze and solve it as quickly as they can (instruction and tools will be provided).

Family Day

The City of New Westminster has a wide variety of free activities taking place in celebration of Family Day, including recreational opportunities and a crafts-and-planting session at the city’s greenhouse.

Bunny

Bunny, Hannah Moscovitch’s acclaimed play, explores love, lust and social inhibitions. Produced by The Search Party, the 2022 debut of this production at The Cultch garnered eight Jessie nominations and four wins.
