If shopping is on your weekend’s to-do list, you’re in luck as there are several great holiday shopping events happening in New West – as well as some great entertainment offerings and the launch of the new Snowflake Spectacular event.

Friday, Dec. 8

Snowflake Spectacular

Snowflake Spectacular, part of Shine Bright New West, aims to be a whimsical interactive pop-up snowflake wonderland with live performances of music and dance, a giant magical snow globe, and special snowflake activities.

  • When: Friday, Dec. 8, 5 to 8 p.m. (and again on Friday, Dec. 15)
  • Where: Uptown Plaza (at Sixth and Belmont streets)
  • Details: Free, and the site is fully accessible

Saturday, Dec. 9

New West Craft

New West Craft showcases the works of more than 35 local artisans and makers, in an event hosted by Arts New West.

  • When: Saturday, Dec. 9, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Where: River Market, 810 Quayside Dr.

Festive singalong with the Rainbow Chorus

The Rainbow Chorus of New Westminster invites folks to raise their voices for the season at its second annual festive singalong.

  • When: Saturday, Dec. 9, 1 to 2 p.m.
  • Where: Sanctuary on Sixth, 207 Sixth St. (corner of Queens Avenue and Sixth Street)
  • Details: Free

New West Farmers holiday market

New West Farmers Market’s fourth annual holiday market features 90 vendors, food trucks, live entertainment, kid’s crafts and activities, carolers, and more. Shop for handcrafted gifts and tasty culinary creations.

  • When: Saturday, Dec. 9 and Sunday, Dec. 10, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Where: In front of New Westminster City Hall, 511 Royal Ave.
  • Details:  Admission is by donation (with a $5 recommended minimum); 50 per cent of the donations will go to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank.

Holiday pop-up

New West Artists Holiday Pop-Up includes an art exhibit, cards, gift items, and more.

  • When: Saturday, Dec. 9 and Sunday, Dec. 10, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Where: The #IHeartNewWest Community Art Space in Columbia Square, #103 - 78 10th St.

Buddy’s Holy Jolly Christmas

Buddy’s Holy Jolly Christmas 2022 features Zachary Stevenson, who performed in the hit musical, The Buddy Holly Story. He’ll be joined by the Chicago-based trio The Lovettes, with their show-stopping salute to the female icons and girl groups of the 50s and 60s, including a special tribute to Tina Turner. You’ll hear all the big hits plus some seasonal tunes.

  • When: Sunday, Dec. 10, 7 to 9 p.m.
  • Where: Massey Theatre, 735 Eighth Ave.

Holiday Jumble

Shop at the Holiday Jumble, a community market with art, handmade crafts, pre-loved treasures, pottery, specialty foods and more.

  • When: Saturday, Dec. 9 (11 a.m. to 7 p.m.) and Sunday, Dec. 10 (11 a.m. to 6 p.m.)
  • Where: Eighth and Eight Creative Spaces, 735 Eighth Ave. (Massey Theatre complex)

The Marvelous Wonderettes

The Vagabond Players present The Marvelous Wonderettes at the Bernie Legge Theatre in Queen’s Park. Take a musical trip down memory lane through classic ‘50s and ‘60s tunes in a show featuring more than 30 classic hits including Lipstick on Your Collar, It’s My Party and Son of a Preacher Man.

  • When: Until Dec. 17. Shows are Thursday to Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m., plus additional matinee performances on Saturday Dec. 9 and 16.
