FRIDAY, OCT. 22

HERITAGE MAGIC

Tune in via Facebook Live to watch Jasmine Moore, the heritage manager at Mackin House Museum (1116 Brunette Ave., Coquitlam), talk about some of the “most magical” objects in the Coquitlam Heritage Society’s collection. The live-streamed event is free and runs from noon to 1 p.m. No registration is required.

SPOOKY TRAILS

Explore the area around the Noons Creek Hatchery (300 Ioco Rd., Port Moody), which has its first Halloween interpretive trail up until Oct. 31. Learn about the critters that live around the fishery facility and watch for salmon returning home to complete their life cycle.

BOTTLE DRIVE

Help the 1st Port Coquitlam Scouts raise money for their programs by dropping off your empty bottles and cans at Kilmer Elementary (1575 Knappen St., Port Coquitlam) from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

SEW-IN MIX & MINGLE

Join Port Coquitlam’s artist-in-residence Jennie Johnston in The Outlet at Leigh Square (behind city hall) from 1 to 2 p.m. for a sew-in mix and mingle, as part of B.C. Culture Days. You can mend a piece of clothing, knit, crochet or hand stitch. And supplies will be provided for you to try out new skills like embroidery or using a sewing machine. HELLO MUNDY PARK

Join the Fraser River Discovery Centre as it wades into Mundy Park as part of its River Basin Days. FRDC staff will teach participants about “the crown jewel of Coquitlam,” as Mayor Richard Stewart describes Mundy Park, including its native plants. Games and activities will also be held during the workshop, which takes place from 2 to 3 p.m. Go to the east parking lot at 626 Mariner Way to meet with FRCD staff at the park entrance sign. Pay when you register and, the next time you visit the Discovery Centre in person, there will be no cost.

HELLO FISH!

See the chum salmon return home at an annual welcoming festival co-hosted by the Hoy/Scott Watershed Society and the City of Coquitlam. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., the hatchery off Town Centre Boulevard in Coquitlam will have displays and tours.
