Super Saturdays returns to Fraser River Discovery Centre this weekend.

Fraser River Discovery Centre is going to the birds for its next Super Saturdays event.

This weekend’s Super Saturdays is focusing on the migratory birds that are returning to the Fraser River this spring.

“Every spring, the Fraser Basin becomes a temporary rest stop for a variety of migratory birds,” said Stephen Bruyneel, the centre’s director of external relations and development. “Those birds use the estuary as a much-needed rest stop as they travel north up the Pacific Flyway to their summer nesting sites.”

At this weekend’s Super Saturdays event, Fraser River Discovery Centre staff will help visitors learn about the return of migratory birds to the Fraser River and about why the estuary is so important for their journey. They will also help guests create a home-made bird feeder that they can take home.

“There will be fun for the whole family,” Bruyneel said in a news release. “And it will also be safe, as all activities are consistent with our COVID health and safety plan, including the need to pre-register, limited numbers, timed visits, social distancing and frequent cleaning.”

Super Saturdays take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the last Saturday of every month at Fraser River Discovery Centre, 788 Quayside Dr. Each month’s event includes family-friendly activities based on a different monthly theme.

Super Saturdays is free with admission to the galleries.
