The Rotaract Club of New Westminster is helping local students start their day off right.
Members of the service club recently delivered $525 worth of much-needed groceries to Purpose Secondary in New Westminster. The group states the independent school lost its breakfast program, which the majority of students rely on, because of COVID-19.
The Rotaract Club of New Westminster is a service club for young adults aged 18 to 30. Its members are university students and young professionals, who volunteer and raise funds for local and international projects.
Maria Korovnikov, the group’s co-president, said the donation included oatmeal, granola bars, yogurt tubes, juice boxes, apples and oranges.
“The Purpose Secondary principal said that ‘the need is greater than ever,’ which inspired the New Westminster Rotaract Club to take initiative to help out,” said a press release from the Rotaract Club of New Westminster. “Thanks to a grant the Rotaract club received, they were able to purchase … much-needed breakfast foods for the students. One Rotaractor said that ‘it is great to feel that we’re making a direct impact in our community during such a challenging time.’”
The donation wasn’t the first time the group has helped out the Purpose Society. After Krispy Kreme Doughnuts provided the group with a donation of five dozen doughnuts last October, Rotaract delivered treats to the independent school for students to enjoy.
Rotaract, which is affiliated with Rotary, has been serving the New West for many years. It works to brings together people ages 18 and older to exchange ideas with leaders in the community, to develop leadership and professional skills and to have fun through service.
