The North Shore Photographic Society’s 37th annual Photographic Challenge is taking place in early March, and encourages individuals as well as other clubs to submit their best work.
This year’s event will feature a keynote presentation from renowned photographer and adventurer Chris Harris, with participants able to tune in from the comfort and safety of home to watch the show.
“The pandemic has had such a negative impact on so many aspects of our communities. It forced the NSPS to re-think our event and fortuitously, that generated some exciting new opportunities,” said Gord Cook, the society’s spokesman.
Founded in 1983, the photographic society boasts more than 75 active members of all ages who, prior to the pandemic, meet regularly three times a month in-person from September to June at North Shore Unitarian Church in West Vancouver.
Due to COVID-19 safety measures, the society has been meeting via Zoom a few times a week for the past year, a move which has actually bolstered membership and got more people from outside the Lower Mainland involved, noted Cook, adding that members who meet up virtually can share their images to get helpful feedback as well as learn from program presenters and fellow members.
This year’s Photographic Challenge is an open theme. Subjects can include rare wildlife action shots, breathtaking landscapes, street or architecture photos, the human form, altered reality and abstracts.
Participants have until Feb. 12 to submit their images. The online event takes place the following month on March 6. Click here for more information or to enter the competition.
