A musical legacy in New West continues with the return of the Maple Leaf Singers’ annual spring show – a performance that’s graced local stages since the 1970s.

The Maple Leaf Singers will present two performances of their Fascinating Rhythms show at Anvil Theatre: Saturday, May 18 (7:30 p.m.) and Sunday, May 19 (2 p.m.)

The Maple Leaf Singers are putting on their annual spring show – 56 years after George and Marie Gillis started the popular group.

The New West couple started the Maple Leaf Singers in 1968 with 24 members.

Their son Rob and his wife Josie continued the family tradition and joined the Maple Leaf Singers in 2007. Today, Rob Gillis is the group’s music director.

What can audiences expect to see and hear?

The Maple Leaf Singers describes itself as a “show-chorus” that does more than sing.

“We perform. Our dynamic shows feature a variety of music complemented by choreography in genres such as: pop, gospel, swing, jazz, folk, classical, spiritual, rock, Broadway hits and more,” said the group’s website. “Our members come from all over Metro Vancouver to sing in six-part harmony.”
