You can build paper planes and learn about transportation at Summer Discovery Days at Fraser River Discovery Centre.
The centre invites community members to visit its “engineering lab” on the B.C. Day long weekend. It’s located at 788 Quayside Dr. on New Westminster’s waterfront.
“Long weekends in the summer months are extra special, and we wanted to help people celebrate them,” said Stephen Bruyneel, the centre’s director of external relations and development. “Our Summer Discovery Days discoveries will help, and they continue on the B.C. Day long weekend with our engineering lab.”
Activities will include: building paper planes and testing how the designs fare in the flight testing area; showing off boat- and bridge-building creativity with KEVA wooden plank challenges; and learning about local transportation innovators to identify some of the many planes, boats, and bridges visible on the Fraser River.
“The Fraser River is a part of a busy transportation corridor, from the bridges that are used every day to cargo planes that move goods around the world,” stated a FRDC press release. “On the B.C. Day long weekend, FRDC staff will help guests take a closer look at the many ways things move around the Fraser River, then put their observations to work with family friendly activities.”
Summer Discovery Days will take place Saturday, July 30 through Monday, Aug. 1 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. COVID-19 Safety protocols will be in place, and pre-registration is recommended at https://fraserriverdiscovery.org/summerdiscovery/.
