It may not be business as usual at Century House, but the New West centre is offering plenty of programming for seniors - including two upcoming safety workshops.

Seniors safety is being served up on a couple of fronts at Century House.

A Virtual Seniors Safe Tea is being held on Zoom on Friday, March 19 from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Local seniors are invited to grab a cup of tea and a snack and enjoy a presentation by the New Westminster Police Department and Century House staff – from the comfort of their homes.

“We will have an open dialogue and an informative presentation around current hot topics such as: scams (email, mail, internet, and phone); warm weather home safety (open windows and fire hazards); fraud; and how to recognize a New Westminster police officer. There will be an opportunity to ask questions,” said a notice about the event.

Safety is also the topic of an online workshop being hosted by Century House member Tania Cernezel. Safety Online: Using Email or Internet Browsing is taking place on Zoom on Wednesday, March 24 from 1:30 to 3 p.m.

“Do you use email or browse the internet? Then this course is for you,” said a notice about the workshop. “Scams can happen to any of us. In this seminar, you will learn how to spot a scam. You will learn how online scammers take advantage of our natural human tendencies and trap us into taking actions we shouldn’t, possibly leading to financial loss or worse. Join us for an interactive discussion.”

Register in advance for this workshop at www.tinyurl.com/CHBrowsing.
