CALGARY — The road back to the CFL playoffs goes through Vernon Adams Jr. in Calgary. The Stampeders acquired the quarterback from the B.C. Lions a month after their worst season in two decades concluded in 2024.

MONTREAL — Davis Alexander is off to a winning start as the face of the Montreal Alouettes. Alexander threw for one touchdown and 205 yards in a steady outing as Montreal defeated the Toronto Argonauts 28-10 to open its CFL season Friday.

CALGARY — Doug Flutie expects to feel the itch Saturday.

Hamilton Tiger-Cats general manager Ted Goveia says he has been diagnosed with "a serious form of cancer that's spread." In a story posted on the club's website Friday, Goveia, 55, said the diagnosis was made in April.

HAMILTON — Bo Levi Mitchell is poised to join a very select group. The veteran quarterback chases his 100th career CFL regular-season win Saturday when the Hamilton Tiger-Cats visit the Calgary Stampeders in the season opener for both teams.

REGINA — The Saskatchewan Roughriders won the CFL's first game of the 2025 season, but it was a costly 31-26 victory over the Ottawa Redblacks on Thursday. The Roughriders lost four starters to injury, including three in the first 17 minutes.

CALGARY — Marcus Crandell has signed a one-day contract with the Calgary Stampeders so the 51-year-old can officially retire a member of the club.
