The theatre and the Savage Society are presenting a reading of Tara Beagan’s Dreary and Izzy, part of the theatre’s Massey Unlimited programming, on Thursday, Jan. 31 at 7 p.m. It stars John Cook, Tai Amy Grauman, Quelemia Sparrow and Anita Wittenberg.

Beagan’s play, set in 1975 in Lethbridge, Alta., tells the story of the Monoghan sisters, who have lost their parents in a car accident. Deirdre remains as sole caregiver to her older sister, Isabelle – and, just as she’s poised to enter university, she’s forced to decide how much of her own life she will sacrifice for love of her sister. Then hope arrives in the form of the gorgeous vacuum cleaner salesman Freddie Seven Horses – who brings with him a new world of unexplored emotions and ideas.

Note: The play includes mature subject matter. Child minding will be available.

Beagan will be on hand for a talkback after the performance.

The reading is in the Plaskett Gallery at the theatre, 735 Eighth Ave. Free childminding will be available; call 604-521-5900 for information.
