A new exhibition at the Gallery at Queen’s Park is exploring the idea of memory.

Lisa-Scarlett Cruji’s The Recollection Experiment is on at the gallery from Wednesday, April 3 to Sunday, April 28. An opening reception is set for April 3 from 6 to 8 p.m., and an artist’s talk is on Sunday, April 14 from 3 to 4 p.m.

The exhibition combines vintage photographs with original brief narratives and poetry in the form of haiku and tanka.

“Cruji’s collage collection invites viewers to consider both the possible identity of narrator and influence of the ghosts of personal memories – those that are factual, and the ones that speak to us through filters of love, fear, ecstasy and regret,” said an artist’s statement.

The Recollection Experiment plays with the overall notion of memory and the way it often poses the questions: Whose voice do we hear when we read the words? What’s real and what isn’t?

The Gallery at Queen’s Park is in Centennial Lodge. It’s open Wednesdays from 1 to 8 p.m. and Thursdays through Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m. See www.artscouncilnewwest.org or call 604-525-3244 for information.
