The Arts Council of New Westminster film series continues on Monday, May 27, with Wild Rose. The film chronicles the story of a  young mother from Glasgow who longs to make it as a country singer in Nashville – but who has more than a few obstacles to overcome along the way, not the least of which are a year in prison and the need to care for her own two children.

It stars Jessie Buckley as Rose-Lynn and Julie Walters as Rose’s mother, Marion.

The movie series will wind up for the season on June 24 with You Are Here: A Come From Away Story. The feature documentary travels to Gander, Nfld., and tells the story of what happened after 9/11, when 38 airliners carrying 6,500 passengers were stranded in the small community.

Last Mondays movies start at 7 p.m., with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. Movies are followed by Last Word, a post-film talk discussing a topic related to the night's movie. Tickets are $9 general admission, or $8 for seniors and students. They’re available online at www.ticketsnw.ca or at the door (cash only).

Season passes for the 2019/20 season of Last Mondays at the Movies will also be on sale at the final two screenings of the season. You can pay by cash or cheque, and passes cost $65 general or $60 for seniors and students.
