It's down to the finish line for candidates vying for your vote in New Westminster-Burnaby for the Oct. 21 federal election.

The list of candidates running for city council continues to grow as we move closer to the election day.

As of the Record’s press time, the mayor’s race featured two candidates – incumbent Jonathan Cote and downtown businessman Harm Woldring.

A number of candidates have thrown their name in the ring to run for councillor. Here’s who we know is running so far: Chinu Das; Daniel Fontaine; Troy Hunter; Patrick Johnstone (incumbent); Jaimie McEvoy (incumbent); Paul McNamara; Nadine Nakagawa; Benny Ogden; Chuck Puchmayr (incumbent); Angela Sealy; Mary Trentadue (incumbent); Ellen Vaillancourt; and Bryn Ward.

The nomination period for candidates vying for mayor, city councillor and school trustees starts on closes at 4 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 14.

The election office at city hall is posting candidate information on the city’s election website as they come into city hall to file their nomination documents.  You can see which candidates have filed so far at www.newwestcity.ca/elections.

Philip Lo, deputy chief election officer, said the election office encourages candidates who are considering running for office to book their nomination appointments soon, as the last few days of the nomination period are typically the busiest.
