Tell us about yourself. (100 words)

As a mum of three kids in New Westminster schools, I’m passionate about public education. I have twenty years of leadership experience in government, community organizations and non-profit organizations. Volunteering with many New West parent and minor sports groups I’ve worked to build community and supports for our kids. I have spoken up for seismic safety, for students with special needs, for working families and for our schools to meet the needs of diverse families.

What are the top 3 issues facing the New Westminster school board?

  1. Complete the rebuild of NWSS & Richard McBride, and address crowding in Queensborough
  2. Meet the needs of diverse learners, including students with special needs
  3. Begin to restore the cuts from two decades of under-funding to BC public education

What do you think this school board has done well? What have they done wrong?

The school board has done an amazing job working with the city and our MLA to land funding for our new high school. It’s the province’s biggest school build and it will be a beautiful facility that students and staff can be proud of.

What is your position on the school district’s involvement in May Day?

First, this topic has not come up after knocking on dozens of doors - but access to after-school child care certainly has! Which says to me that while most people love May Day, it needs to take up a little less time and energy. I’m hopeful that the board has …
