New Westminster's COVID-19 case count has been sliding since its peak in April, but this week saw a small move upwards for the first time since then.

New Westminster's COVID-19 case counts moved upwards this week for the first time since April.

The change wasn't a dramatic one, however, and the city's case numbers remain in single-digit territory. After bottoming out at five new cases last week, the city recorded eight cases in the last reporting period (July 4 to 10), according to this week's data from the B.C. Centre for Disease Control.

The city has been recording a long and steady slide downward in the number of new COVID-19 cases since peaking at 151 in the week of April 4 to 10.

New Westminster's test positivity rates remained at 1% for the second week in a row.

The local numbers are in line with the provincial trend, which has seen case counts remain at a consistently low level – without yet showing signs of disappearing altogether. Yesterday the province reported 41 new cases, with today's count at 54 – the highest number in a week.
