New Westminster's vaccination rates are still climbing, with 84% of the population aged 12+ now having received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

New Westminster’s COVID-19 vaccination rates are slowly climbing – but we haven’t quite managed to crack the B.C. top-10 list.

This week’s B.C. Centre for Disease Control data shows New Westminster’s first-dose vaccination rate for all eligible people aged 12 and up is at 84%. For municipalities in the Fraser Health region (which spans from Burnaby to Boston Bar), that puts New West in second, behind only Delta’s 86% rate.

On a provincewide level, it puts the city in a three-way tie (with Revelstoke and Vancouver South) for the 11th-highest first-dose percentages in B.C., by local health area.

Of B.C.’s 87 local health areas, the Central Coast (part of Vancouver Coastal Health) leads the way with a 94% first-dose rate.

The Saanich Peninsula, on Vancouver Island, stands at 88%, with three Vancouver Coastal Health areas (Vancouver Northeast, Vancouver Midtown and North Vancouver) at 87%.

At the other end of the spectrum, Northern Health has the least-vaccinated local health areas, with Peace River North and South still at 51% apiece and Fort Nelson at 53%.

NEW WESTMINSTER CLINICS

The push is still on to get first doses into the arms of all eligible people.

Fraser Health is continuing its same-day, walk-in vaccinations at clinics around the region, including the Anvil Centre (777 Columbia St.) in New West. Anyone who hasn’t yet received a first dose can walk in between 10:45 a.m. and 4:45 p.m. daily to do so.

Neighbourhood clinics are also offered on an ongoing basis in a number of locations. The next published one for New Westminster is at the Umbrella Multicultural Health Co-op (715 Carnarvon St.) on Tuesday, July 27 between noon and 6 p.m.

All people living in Fraser Health are welcome, including those without personal health numbers, vulnerable people and/or people who are not residents of B.C.

Clinic information is always being updated, so consult the Fraser Health vaccination clinics page for the latest details.
