Family Day fun is just one of the things to look forward to in New West this long weekend.

Celebrate Family Day at the Family Fun Zone at Anvil Centre, which features entertainment, games, activities, andarts and crafts from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The city is also opening up the doors to many of its programs and facilities for free on Monday, Feb. 18 – you can find a full list of the day’s offerings at www.tinyurl.com/NWFamilyDay2019.

2. Get outdoors and enjoy a walk on the waterfront this weekend. While you’re there pop into River Market and grab a bite to eat. On Monday, River Market is hosting a variety of activities from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for Family Day. River Market is at 810 Quayside Dr.

3. Enjoy a night of laughs when Laughter Zone 101 brings F is For Funny Too to the Anvil Centre stage on Saturday, Feb. 16 at 8 p.m. Tickets are available at www.ticketsnw.ca or 604-521-5050.

4. Head uptown on Saturday and pick up some goodies at the New West Farmers Market, which runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the 600 block of Belmont Street.

5. Tour the Samson V, the last steam-powered sternwheeler that operated in B.C., when it opens for the first time since October – just for Family Day. The vessel, which is moored on the waterfront in front of the Inn at the Quay, is open on Monday, Feb. 18 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

6. Check out the artwork of New Westminster Secondary School students at Today’s Tomorrow exhibition at the Plaskett Gallery at Massey Theatre, featuring a range of styles, skills and forms that students study in their art classes. The Plaskett Gallery, located in the Massey Theatre complex at 735 Eighth Ave., is open Tuesdays to Saturdays from 1 to 5 p.m., by appointment and during performances in the theatre. The exhibition runs until Feb. 28.
