What's open and what's closed on this Snow Day in New West?

Schools, community centres and other services are closed for a snow day - but shelters and warming centres are open for those in need.

Snow blanketed Moody Park in the early hours of Wednesday, Jan. 17.

Warm soup may be on the menu at Green’s And Beans Deli in Sapperton – but many services around town are shuttered by snow.

Leona Green, co-owner of the Sapperton, eatery took to Facebook early this morning, to let customers know the deli was open for business.

“We are open. Soup is on and it is warm and cozy inside,” she wort on Facebook. “I took the SkyTrain, and it was smooth sailing.”

While Greens and Beans is open today, a number of services are closed in New Westminster today because of the still-falling snow.

Yesterday, the Record checked in with the City of New Westminster’s manager of engineering operations about the city’s snow response plan.

“All available crews and equipment will be working throughout the night to clear roads of snow and will be operating 24 hours a day, as needed, until the end of the snow event,” said a notice from the city. “We ask that you please stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary, not only for your safety but also to assist our road-clearing efforts.”
