Trackers make history at Jr. Olympic meet

The Royal City Track Club began their competitive season making club history at the South Fraser Junior Olympics meet at Bear Creek Park this past May long weekend.

The Trackers girls' defeated perennial powerhouse clubs - Ocean Athletics from Surrey, the Langley Mustangs and Coquitlam Cheetahs to finish first in the aggregate. The smaller numbered male squad also had a very strong showing, finishing an overall fifth place in the club standings.

In the combined aggregate, Royal City finished firmly in second place just behind Ocean Athletics.

The Trackers had a total of 80 top8 finishes, including 12 gold, seven silver and 11 bronze medals.

Four of the girls earned outstanding meet athlete in their age groups based on total points scored. The gold winners were nine-year-old Alysha Sidhu and Megan Lauener, 10, while 11-year-old Shianne Lowka earned a silver and 13-year-old Brianne Lowka a bronze.

Other notable performances were Lauener, Anaiyah Bernier and Michelle Dadson finishing first, second and fifth, respectively, in the girls' 60-metre sprint; 13-year-old Brianne Lowka taking gold in the high jump and silver in the triple jump; sister Shianne and Jenevieve Patry-Smith finishing first and third in the high jump. Shianne also won the discus and Patry-Smith the shot.
