The Shuttlesport Badminton Academy saw a number of athletes place in the top-three at the recent Western Canadians.

New Westminster’s Nicholas Susanto emerged on the podium at the Western Canadian badminton championships in Richmond, finishing third in the boys under-15 division.
Susanto was one of eight players selected to represent B.C. from the Shuttlesport Badminton Academy in PoCo, which is operated by coach Al Mawani.
Mawani, a Burnaby resident, was also selected as Team B.C. Red’s coach.
B.C. captured the under-17 title, with Coquitlam’s Paxton Lin wearing the gold medal. Jalene Pang placed second in the girls under-19 division.
Also representing B.C. at the event were clubmates Amanda Chan, Nestor Lin, Heidi Tsui, Iris Xu and Burnaby’s Samantha Tse.
It came on the heels of last month’s B.C. junior provincial championships, where Shuttlesport dominated.
Susanto was part of a tandem that captured the u15 boys doubles silver medal, while Joy Liu won both the u13 girls singles crown and the mixed doubles title.
Franklin Susanto, also of New West, joined forces with Cleon Lui to finish third in the u17 division.
