Stewart-Barnett strides to top-three finish at BCs

New Westminster’s Katelyn Stewart-Barnett was a strong third at last week’s B.C. High School cross country championships in Abbotsford.

Running for her St. Thomas More Knights, Stewart-Barnett finished the senior girls race in 18:15 minutes, behind champion Madelyn Bonikowsky of LV Rogers (17:39) and Kendra Lewis of Van Tech (18:01).

Stewart-Barnett, who trains with the Royal City Track and Field Club, is in Grade 11.

Finishing 17th with a time of 19:35 was STM teammate Milena Kalisch, while fellow RCTFC runner Isabella Brunoro, of Burnaby Mountain, placed 28th at 20:03.

In senior boys results, Burnaby Mountain’s Kosta Adzic registered the top local time, finishing 35th in 17:18. The winner, Jaiveer Tiwana of Fleetwood Park, completed the event in 15:44.

Henry Ruckman-Utting of Alpha placed 47th overall, while Moscrop’s Liam Farbridge was 79th. Burnaby Central’s Ryan Goudring came in 90th, while NWSS’ Evan Beckers placed 98th.

In the junior ranks, STM's Gian Samuel Scaglione placed 24th among boys, while teammate Cameron Dewith came in 56th. Burnaby Mountain's Takeru Yasuda finished 94th.

Fellow Burnaby Mountain runner Tessa Phillips finished 77th in the junior girls division.
