The Douglas College men’s volleyball team suffered its first loss of the year – twice, in fact, as the Vancouver Island University Mariners carted off home court wins of 3-0 and 3-1 last weekend.
The Royals, who entered the series as the top team in the PacWest, were unable to handle the powerful Mariners on the first day.

Although they took the first set on Day 2, 21-25, Vancouver Island swept the next three for the win. Max Haronga led Douglas with 14 kills on the day, while Reid Marriott put up 11.
Tied with Capilano at 13-4 for top spot, with VIU just a game back, Douglas also was dropped to eighth overall in the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association rankings, from No. 2.
