The New Westminster Royals took the crown, literally, from their own tournament.
The peewee A1 Royals avenged an earlier loss, flipping the score with a 4-1 victory over the Richmond Jets in the final of the Herb House Memorial tournament on Dec. 30.
Lucas McDonald scored three times in the final, with Alexander Sy adding a single. Chipping in with two helpers was Oliver Nottingham, while goalie Josh Narain made some key saves.
To get to the final, New West disposed of Surrey 5-3 in the semifinal.
McDonald, Nottingham and Sy each tallied 13 points over the six games, sharing the tourney scoring title.
The Royals finished first in round-robin play, despite dropping the first game 4-1 to Richmond. They rebounded to top Seattle 5-2, blasted Surrey 8-1 and then defeated Langley 7-4.
In the midget C division, New West’s C2 Royals doubled up on Coquitlam 6-3 to claim third place.
