Royal City curler Daniel Wenzek and his team have clinched a berth to the 2020 B.C. Mens Curling championships in Cranbrook.

The Royal City Curling Club’s Daniel Wenzek rink has locked up a berth to the 2020 B.C. Men’s Curling championships.

As the third-place team in the B.C. Men’s Curling Tour, Wenzek and his crew – which features third Cam de Jong, second Cody Tanaka and lead Nicholas Umbach – earned a ticket to the Cranbrook-hosted event, which goes Jan. 28 to Feb. 2.

The 2016 B.C. junior champ, Wenzek follows the Canadian Team Ranking System and tour points leader Tyler Tardi and defending B.C. men’s champ Jim Cotter in getting placed at the provincial tournament.

On the tour, Wenzek was 17-10, but is coming off an 0-5 performance at Penticton-hosted Ashley Home Store Curling Classic last week. They began November with a hot weekend at the Raymond James Kelowna Double Cashspiel, storming through with a perfect 6-0 run.

Tardi’s lineup includes former Royal City curler and Burnaby resident Sterling Middleton at third.

Abbotsford’s Sean Geall rink was awarded a fourth position to the B.C.s.

The remaining 12 men’s berths will be decided at regional playdowns held between Dec. 13 and 15, as well as at an open playdown in Penticton Jan. 10 to 12.
