Royal City catch medal fever at Jerome Indoor

Medals and strong results were the order of the day for Royal City Track and Field Club athletes, who made the most of their events at the 2019 Harry Jerome Indoor Meet in Richmond.

Medals and strong results were the order of the day for Royal City Track and Field Club athletes, who made the most of their events at the 2019 Harry Jerome Indoor Meet in Richmond.

Led by gold medals from Jarrett Chong and Ryan Goudron, the club posted four medals and 10 top-eight finishes at the competition.

Chong collected the top prize in shot put in men’s 18+ open division with a distance of 14.99 metres, beating Rafal Czekajko’s toss of 11.13m. Goudron won the 1,000-metre race with a stellar time of 2:52.02, more than five seconds quicker than Vancouver Olympics’ Davis Timko, placed third in the 600m, and was seventh in 300m in under-18.

Racking up a silver in the women’s u18 was Christina Heslop, with a time of 3:32.65, trailing just Selin Tasdemir’s 3:14.83.
