The Tri City Americans have just become popular in the Royal City again.

The franchise, which spent four seasons as the New Westminster Bruins between 1983-88, made New Westminster native Markus Johansen a happy camper on Thursday.

The 15-year-old defenceman was selected in the eighth round, 165th overall, by the Americans in the Western Hockey League's Bantam Draft.

A six-foot-tall defenceman in the Delta Bantam Prep program, Johansen put up three goals and eight assists over 26 games this past season in the Canadian Sport Schools Hockey League. A year ago he skated for West Vancouver's prep academy team.
