Burnaby righthanded pitcher threw in two preliminary games for Canada at u-18 Baseball World Cup in Osaka, Japan this week.

Matteo Vincelli and the rest of Canada’s junior national team are off to the super round at the under-18 Baseball World Cup.

The Canucks earned a spot in the final six following a third-place finish in Group B in Osaka, Japan on Tuesday.

Canada, at 2-2, had its final group game against South Africa suspended in the middle of the third inning because of heavy rains.

But Cuba’s 3-2 victory over Chinese Taipei ensured the Maple Leaf a spot in the championship round, which begins on Thursday.

Vincelli pitched in two World Cup games.

The 18-year-old righthander allowed one hit in one inning on the mound in Canada’s opening 6-2 win over Chinese Taipei on Aug. 29.

The Burnaby product also went two innings in an 11-1 loss to Cuba on Monday, striking out two batters, while allowing three hits and one run.

In the super round, Canada faced host Group A winner Japan on Thursday.

The Canadians will take on the United States today (Friday) and Australia on Saturday.
