Burnaby’s James MacGowan helped Team B.C. to a bronze medal in the men’s triples at the Canadian Bowls championships in North York, Ont. on Saturday.

MacGowan and teammates Kin On Lau and Michael Leong defeated Saskatchewan 17-11 in the consolation final.

The B.C. lawn bowling threesome finished round robin play with a 6-3-0 record in the nine-day competition, placing just one point behind runner-up and eventual champion Alberta.

Ontario A finished the preliminary round with a perfect 9-0-0 record.

In the final, Alberta, which finished at 6-2-1 in the early rounds, edged Ontario 21-20 on the final bowl of an extra end.

In the preliminary rounds, B.C. lost 18-7 to Saskatchewan B, 21-16 to Ontario A and 18-7 to Alberta in the final day of round-robin play at the nationals.

The B.C. women’s fours won a gold medal following a 21-11 win over Ontario B.

Ontario B came back to edge B.C. 15-14 to win the women’s triples.

In men’s pairs, Alberta beat B.C. 24-14 to take the gold medal.
