Since its inception in 1984, Baka has built a reputation as both a pioneer and innovator in the Canadian wireless industry, delivering communications and seamless business solutions to consumer, business, government and wholesale customers across Canada – including some of the country’s best-known brands and largest Government organizations. The company supports thousands of businesses across Canada and has surpassed the envious milestone of over one million customers.

“We are excited to be expanding our presence to B.C.,” comments John Marion, CEO of Baka Communications. “Our team has been supporting customers in B.C. for more than 35 years. This is a great opportunity for us to be closer to customers in B.C. and to bring the highest quality of service to businesses in the province, regardless of their size.”

“We have two guiding missions at Baka,” Marion continues. “First is to deliver industry-leading service and support to our customers, and constantly challenge ourselves to look for ways to make our customers lives easier. The second is our commitment to the environment and sustainable business practices that go beyond ROI. The ultimate goal is to be a carbon-neutral company and for our transactions with our customers to be carbon-neutral. We feel these do not have to be mutually exclusive.

"At Baka, we refer to this as a Return on Doing Good. We are looking forward to being a part of a green, socially responsible market such as B.C., and investing in our green initiatives to positively impact the local community.”

Baka’s fleet management company, Trak-iT Wireless recently expanded to its B.C. offices

Trak-iT Wireless and the Fleet Freedom® solution was introduced as part of the Baka Group of Companies in 2004 and was one of the first mobile device location-based services in North America. As a result, it revolutionized how businesses can increase efficiency, reduce idle time and track employee driving habits, leading them down a greener, more socially responsible business path.

Fleet Freedom® offers a fully integrated web-based solution that allows companies to manage mobile fleets, dispatch and communicate with employees, and manage daily operations.

Fleet Freedom has been used by companies at the Port of Vancouver for years to track vehicles and containers. The fuel efficiencies have resulted in estimated savings equivalent to two supertankers of crude oil.

Committed to being a carbon-neutral company

Over the years, Baka’s commitment to integrated sustainable practices has become a blueprint for SMB green innovation. The company has been consulted on its “sustainable ecosystem” by McMaster University, The U.S. Marines, and the San Diego Zoo, among others.

Baka has taken initiatives to reduce its carbon footprints in offices, where only efficient LED light bulbs are used, all waste is composted, and the company implemented a work-from-home policy to reduce carbon emissions—prior to the onset of the pandemic.

And, that's not all.

In 2012, Baka converted their entire fleet to electric. Then, to mark its 30th anniversary in 2015, Baka applied to have its land rezoned back to agricultural use so it can be used for urban farming—growing produce all year long that is consumed within the city.

The land houses a 4,000 square foot greenhouse and surrounding field crops that utilize reclaimed water, and in 2018, its headquarters became home to bee colonies with over 500,000 bees.

It doesn’t stop there.

Baka has partnered with the non-profit organization OneTreePlanted, to plant a tree on behalf of its customers for every phone sold, to help reforestation and to absorb harmful carbon from the atmosphere – while having a sustainable and economic impact. Trees are planted in the various provinces across Canada, with projects currently underway in B.C.

Those are just some of the programs in place to ensure that Baka lives up to its commitment to contributing to healthy communities.
