Zoning change bad for area

Dear Editor:

As Sapperton residents we are continually feeling offended by some of those who support the rezoning of our single-family dwelling, RS1-zoned neighbourhood to be transformed into major institutional zoning.

We are continually demonized and vilified by the false reports we are against vulnerable and underprivileged people getting treatment.

Nothing could be further from the truth. Sapperton residents only wish to keep their neighbourhood intact as single-family zoning instead of turning into a strip of major institutions.

Sapperton residents have mentioned many times before we support E-Fry expansion, only without the rezoning of a family neighbourhood.

If the single proposal goes through, this will set a precedent for other major institutions to apply for the rest of Sapperton, starting with Sherbrooke Street, to be major institutionalized, possibly commercialized.

Some supporters continue to throw low punches into hard-working Sapperton residents by saying we do not support people in need.

Supporters who continually defend E-Fry expansion are arguing the wrong debate. Let's all argue the changing of a historic and family-oriented neighbourhood and if it is right to transform it into a major institution.

The loss of family dwelling zoning to major institution would be a blow not only to the people who live here but to all families who own property and work hard raising them as it will prove the powerlessness and loss of hope all in the hands of major institutionalism.

Let's keep the debate professional and within the subject.
