Disappointed in teachers

Dear Editor:

As an active volunteer, it's deeply disappointing to hear that some teachers are considering withdrawing services as part of their onging labour dispute.

I volunteer hundreds of hours a year in New Westminster and Greater Vancouver and know many others that do the same. Volunteers are proud of the impact that their efforts have on sports, arts, community and seniors' programs across the province.

I would never cancel a practice, miss a game or fail to show up for a volunteer shift because of a contract dispute with my employer. I suggest that teachers who are truly volunteers would behave the same.
