More details are emerging about the parent group that recently formed with a goal of running candidates in the upcoming civic election.
The Record has learned the names of the organizers behind the group Parents for Public Education. They are:
- Greg Jones (Connaught Heights and NWSS);
- Sandra Coll (Glenbrook, NWSS);
-Rebecca Maurer (Herbert Spencer, Glenbrook);
- Maya Russell (Richard McBride);
-Thor Borgford (Glenbrook);
-Sloane Drennan (Tweedsmuir);
-Neil Gaudrealt (Herbert Spencer);
-Cheryl Greenhalgh (Glenrooke, NWSS);
-Christina Cawkell (Connaught, NWSS)
Included on the list is Kelly Slade-Kerr, a Glenbrooke/Spencer parent who’s spoken on behalf of the group and confirmed the names.
The group is expected to run school trustee candidates in the upcoming election, though Slade-Kerr said no one – including her – has committed to run at this point.
“No one has decided yet, but I can tell you there are two or three people seriously considering running in the election. I’m one of those people,” she said.
Slade-Kerr will make her decision by mid-May, she said. In the meantime, the group is holding its first meeting Wednesday, April 23 at 7 p.m. at Douglas College.
One of the purposes of the meeting is to canvass the parents who turn up to see whether they want to run or if they know anyone who would make a good candidate, according to Slade-Kerr.
