Praise is over the top

Dear Editor:

A recent letter (Wright gets the job done, The Record, Sept. 21) praising Mayor Wayne Wright and attacking mayoralty candidate James Crosty seems to reveal a civic leader of such immense stature that the whole world needs him, not just little New Westminster.

In a cross-examination worthy of a supreme court trial, reader Ron B. Gordon fires about a dozen questions at Mr. Crosty, clearly insinuating that Mr. Crosty does not have the answers, but Mr. Wright does.

It seems to me that if even half these probing questions are indeed in the grasp of Mr. Wright, he would qualify for a position of much greater magnitude: Secretary General of the United Nations, perhaps, or at least Canada's prime minister.

Yet even the worshipful Mr. Gordon admits that, after nine years at our civic helm, Mayor Wright faces some issues still lacking a solution.

We are told, however, that the mayor "has a plan". We are not told what it is, but we are assured that Mr. Crosty doesn't have one.
