Dear Editor:
On Sunday afternoon, we parked our car on
Sixth Street near city hall and had lunch and a short walk.
We returned to our car to find that we had a $30 parking ticket on the windshield.
Just about every car on the street had a ticket on its windshield.
We, like most of the parkers, assumed the parking meters were not active on Sundays and the dearth of cars parked on the street seemed to corroborate that assumption.
We are so outraged by this behaviour by the City of New Westminster that we vowed to avoid shopping and dining in New Westminster any longer.
We didn't check the meter because although we often dine and shop in New Westminster on other days of the week, we rarely do so on Sunday.
The ticket is not just $10 or $20, rather, it is $30 if it is paid right away and $70 if there is any delay in paying it.
We have had it with a city that gouges the very people who make it vibrant and successful.
