Mr. Wright or Mr. Wrong?

Dear Editor:

James Crosty announced his intention to run for mayor on Sept. 9, 2011. Mayor Wayne Wright, in an interview, said the two had nothing in common except that they both lived at the Quay. His Worship stated that they are of a different lifestyle. The flurry has begun.

A mayor of a city claiming to be inclusive and welcoming to all lifestyles comes out of the ring with this statement? Interestingly enough, on the opening of Parliament on Sept. 20, in a tribute to Jack Layton, late Leader of the Opposition, Stephen Harper stated that they were from different political backgrounds but what they shared was their love of Canada. Couldn't Mayor Wright have said that he and James had a common love of New Westminster?

I have lived in New Westminster for 48 years and love to call this city my home. I have worked in the educational systems, both public and private, for those years to teach and model for children and parents tolerance and inclusion for all.

Mr. Wright, you need to rethink your public statements. For me, you are Mr. Wrong!

June Harrison, New Westminster
