Never mind the death penalty - what's needed is a "life penalty" to toughen Canada's judicial response to all cases of capital murder by making life sentences truly mean life.
Let's aim for a change in the courts' sentencing provisions to make life terms for multiple (serial) killers consecutive rather than concurrent, thus ending the practice of "multiple killings for the price of one."
In Clifford Olson's case, for example, that would have amounted to 275 years for his 11 murders without the possibility of endless statutory parole hearings and renewed agony for the relatives of the victims every two years after the first 25 years.
