LETTERS: Time to fix the city’s ‘dismal’ sidewalks

Dear Editor

Re: Councillor wants to curb speeds on New West streets, The Record, Feb. 25.

I applaud Councillor  Patrick Johnstone for wanting to make the streets safer for pedestrians by lowering the speed limit. However, the first thing that should be addressed is the dismal conditions of our sidewalks, including the terrible roundabout intersection at Fifth Street and Fourth Avenue.

The dip in the sidewalk puts you right into the path of traffic, while the white painted lines do not even line up with those dips.

With more scooters and wheelchairs prevalent on our busy walkways, and the fact that this oversight has been reported to the city numerous times for years, this intersection is just an accident waiting to happen.
