LETTERS: Mayor and council aren’t doing enough

Dear Editor:

So Mayor Jonathan Cote is not happy his provincial brethren removed the tolls on the two Lower Mainland bridges.

He says it will affect the replacement of the Pattullo Bridge. I am sure he is so broken up about that fact. It is interesting, considering he and New Westminster city council have done everything they can to have it not replaced!

Things like opting out of TransLink roundtables about its replacement in the past. Wanting TransLink to spend billions more to divert it to the Brunette interchange. Mayor Cote insisting the new bridge opens as a four-lane, when it needed to be a six-lane bridge 20 years ago. This mayor, past and current councils have clearly demonstrated no affinity for traffic. They have done everything in their power to inhibit traffic flow. The Pattullo Bridge is just another thorn in their side when it comes to traffic issues.

So we feel your pain Mayor Cote, when you say you are concerned about the replacement of the bridge.
