Re: Speeding on our New West street is out of control, Record letters

Gary Prokovich’s letter about speeding cars racing through his neighbourhood struck a nerve.

We have the same problem in the 600 and 700 blocks of Hamilton Street, where we have hundreds of residents and several blind driveways emerging from underground parkades, and where the street itself is narrower than it should be due to the constant presence of parked cars on both sides of the street.

Years ago, our strata council asked city council to install speed bumps to help slow these wannabe stock car drivers down, but the city came back with some lame reply about a study that was done years earlier. (The study) showed most drivers were within the speed limit on our street, so no speed bumps for us.

It's only a matter of time before someone gets killed or seriously injured by a reckless driver on our street, and when that time comes I’ll be sure to remind city hall they were so warned, but did nothing about it.
