Letter: Sustainable transportation modes build a healthier New West

Editor: Thank you for your coverage this past week on advocacy efforts (by multiple groups and residents) for allocating (or re-allocating) more money towards sustainable transportation and public realm initiatives that council has made.
A Car Free Columbia Force of Nature
A Car Free Columbia: Artist Louise Chow has envisioned a car-free Columbia Street, which would transform the thoroughfare into a community space in the heart of the city. Chow’s rendering is part of an initiative by local residents with Force of Nature Alliance, who are calling on the city to transform downtown Columbia Street into an area where people can meet, relax and enjoy everything the local businesses have to offer.

Thank you for your coverage this past week on advocacy efforts (by multiple groups and residents) for allocating (or re-allocating) more money towards sustainable transportation and public realm initiatives that council has made.

Choosing to publicize these opinions/suggestions will hopefully help to bring these issues to light and help residents understand that utilizing sustainable transportation modes builds stronger, healthier communities.

Also, I was happy to see your opinion piece this week on the Pattullo Bridge and agreed with all of your points. HUB has been working with the MoTI project team and both the City of New Westminster and Surrey for well over a year advocating for wider cycling facilities on the new bridge and shorter, more efficient connections on both the Surrey and New Westminster side.

We will continue our efforts now that a proponent has been selected.
