Safety is a "curious" trend at a number of SkyTrain stations.

Editor:

Being a frequent public transit over the years either for school or work, I have noticed a curious trend in a number of SkyTrain stations, one being safety.

One day, returning from work/school, I stopped by New Westminster station, went down the stairs and a man stopped me asking for something, and I quickly noticed a man sneaking up behind me. While the man in front of me looked around, I quickly got out of there, since I knew I was going to be robbed. I turned around and both men took off quickly.

Another time, a friend of mine was screamed at and yelled at inside a SkyTrain car; apparently, the man most likely had mental health issues. Witnessed, another time, a man screaming inside a bus – the 99 bus to UBC.

I have noticed a major issue is the lack of Transit Police at key SkyTrain stations, one being New Westminster SkyTrain station. I have spoken to a number of family members and friends about safety about how they feel with the overall safety and noticed how many feel nervous and tense.
