Letter: Rentals shouldn't be up to strata council 'busybodies'

If we don't deal with B.C.'s housing crisis, the whole country will suffer.

If we don't deal with B.C.'s housing crisis, all of Canada will suffer. That's one letter writer's take on changes removing rental restrictions from stratas.

Editor:

Condo owners are owners of real property; there's no real difference between them and owners of townhouses, detached homes. Renting their real property should not be a choice left to strata council busybodies/control freaks (of the most mundane property characteristics).

There is an acute housing crisis in Canada, the second-largest country on earth with one of the world's smallest populations. The crisis has been driven by speculators, both foreign and domestic, with the blessings of the likes of the aging leaders of the B.C. United, former B.C. Liberal Party.

Premier David Eby is attempting to deal with the housing crisis in B.C. with every legal tool available. His alternative is to allow matters to be manipulated by developers, realtors and speculators ... until public opposition inadvertently targets Canadian democracy out of desperation.

Reasonable housing in B.C. and the rest of Canada is a critical necessity like food, water, education. If it continues to be diminished, Canada, not just B.C., will suffer irreparable consequences.
