Letter: 'Pop-up' recycling events in New West an inefficient idea

Editor: I would like to add my voice to the many others who have spoken out with dismay over the closing of the recycling centre. The recycling centre has a social and environmental purpose, adding value to the livability of a city.

The city's current recycling depot makes sense for residents. Moving it doesn't, says this letter writer.

I would like to add my voice to the many others who have spoken out with dismay over the closing of the recycling centre. The recycling centre has a social and environmental purpose, adding value to the livability of a city.

It should be at the forefront of the city’s green initiatives in waste reduction and diversion. Closing it sends the wrong message.

“Pop-up” recycling events are inefficient and not user-friendly. I have to commend London Drugs on their recycling program, showing exemplary corporate efforts in waste diversion.  Why would residents bring their items to a pop-up event when they can bring them to London Drugs at their convenience? With the removal of a recycling centre, residents will be discouraged as access is reduced and more recyclables will be thrown in the landfill. A huge misstep by the city. For all those who are concerned about climate change, think global, act local.
